Consider the cruising you want to do
La Paz offers access to Sea of Cortez anchorages, islands, and a different pace from Cabo San Lucas. For some owners, that aligns better with quiet exploration and longer stays aboard; for others, Cabo’s location and charter environment may be more useful.
Research marinas individually. Confirm overall length, beam, draft, electrical requirements, insurance, liveaboard policies, amenities, pricing, and availability for your dates. Ask about hurricane procedures and what owners must do when named storms approach.
Plan for climate and maintenance. Heat, sun, salt, and seasonal weather affect covers, canvas, batteries, cooling systems, and inspection routines. If you will be away, agree a written management plan for checks, ventilation, cleaning, vendors, and storm preparation.
Investigate the practical service network for your particular engines, electronics, sails, and systems. Availability of parts and specialist technicians can influence downtime and cost, regardless of how attractive the cruising grounds are.
Transport and documentation should also be part of the plan. Obtain vessel-specific logistics quotes and verify registration, customs, tax, and import questions with qualified professionals for your own circumstances.
