How to prepare a boat for a clearer sales conversation
Organize records, photographs, condition details, and viewing logistics before buyers step aboard.

Begin with an honest condition review
Walk through the vessel as a buyer would. Note cosmetic wear, deferred maintenance, inoperative equipment, and items that will not be included. A clear account early is better than surprises during inspection.
Assemble ownership documents, registration material, maintenance invoices, equipment manuals, and records of major repairs or upgrades. Organize them so a qualified buyer can understand the boat’s history without sorting a box of loose paper.
Clean and declutter before photography. Remove personal items, open curtains and hatches where safe, and choose good natural light. Show the full exterior, helm, cockpit, engine spaces where accessible, salon, galley, cabins, and heads. Include important defects rather than hiding them.
Make viewings practical. Confirm access with the marina, ensure batteries and systems needed for a demonstration are ready, and decide who will operate the vessel during a sea trial. Keep safety and insurance requirements ahead of marketing considerations.
Finally, discuss pricing and timing in context. Condition, location, equipment, comparable vessels, and buyer demand all matter. No responsible broker can guarantee a sale price or timeline before the market responds.
